Cuomo for New York City's Message for Voters

While Andrew Cuomo continues his uninterrupted lead among all candidates in the NYC mayoral primary as most recently seen in the Honan Strategy Group poll fielded on April 15, 2025, it remains essential to communicate in a variety of ways so all voters know that in this time of crisis for NYC, Andrew Cuomo is the only proven leader in this race with a real record of results who can get things done. It all comes down to effective, proven leadership. Andrew Cuomo is working for you and fighting for NYC.

There is a clear contrast between Cuomo’s leadership and that of his opponents in areas such as public safety (he is the only major candidate who did not support the defund the police movement calling massive cuts to the NYPD which is keeping our communities safe) and housing (as the founder of one of the nation’s largest homeless providers, HUD Secretary and Governor he is the only candidate with a significant record of building affordable housing). This contrast is well-known and should continue to be communicated to the electorate. However, at this stage of the campaign, we believe it is important for voters to know more about Andrew Cuomo as discussed below:

Based on the polling referenced above, we believe the following is critical for success:

  1. New York is a wonderfully diverse city and Andrew Cuomo is proud to have the support of Black and Latino voters throughout the five boroughs. We believe that as we approach Election Day, it is important to speak to voters on the ground in their communities, at their doors, and at their neighborhood events, to remind them of Governor Cuomo’s accomplishments as well as his Bold Action Plan for the future including:  500,000 new affordable housing units over the next ten years, universal 3-K in every neighborhood, and 5,000 new police officers patrolling the subways and high crime areas.  We know that Andrew Cuomo can do this as mayor because of his significant accomplishments as  governor.
  2. Given the primary field and on-going issues of rising antisemitism there is an opportunity to remind Jewish voters — who may not have voted in previous primaries—that Andrew Cuomo has a lifelong record of standing up against antisemitism and in support of the Jewish community.
  3. We also believe that it is necessary to reach out to voters ages 40-55 who consume their news in “less traditional” ways.  Once reminded of his leadership as governor (particularly during the dark days of COVID), his progressive accomplishments (codifying Roe v Wade into law before the Supreme Court overturned it, raising the minimum wage to the highest in the nation, enacting the nation’s strongest paid family leave policy, passing the strongest gun violence prevention laws in the country), and ability to get things done they likely become supportive.
  4. And finally, it’s critical to communicate broadly to voters in NYC to remind them of Andrew Cuomo’s progressive leadership. He fought to protect New Yorkers from the Trump administration by codifying Roe V. Wade; passed marriage equality and the strongest gun violence prevention laws in the nation; fought for a $15 minimum wage, the highest in the country at that time; worked with government at every level to rebuild NY’s infrastructure including the Kosciuszko Bridge, the Second Avenue Subway, the new LaGuardia airport, and Moynihan Station. Andrew Cuomo led us through the greatest health crisis our country has ever seen and he will use those same leadership skills to lead New York City through the crisis it faces today.
