Uniformed Fire Alarm Dispatchers Benevolent Association Endorses Andrew Cuomo for Mayor of New York City

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City, today received the endorsement of the Uniformed Fire Alarm Dispatchers Benevolent Association. The first responder union represents Fire Alarm Dispatchers, Supervising Fire Alarm Dispatchers, and Chief Fire Alarm Dispatchers in New York City.

“FDNY's emergency dispatchers are the literal first responders to any crisis in our city,” said Governor Cuomo. “No matter the severity of the situation, they serve as the backbone of rescue and safety operations carried out by New York’s Fire Department. More than anyone else, they hear—day in and day out—about the crises affecting our communities. It’s time we had a mayor who will use every tool available to make the five boroughs safer and more affordable—for them, their families, and all New Yorkers. I am thrilled to have their support.”

“The FDNY Fire Alarm Dispatchers Benevolent Association is endorsing Andrew Cuomo for mayor because he is the only candidate with proven managerial experience and a clear understanding of the crucial role our members play in keeping New York City safe,” said Louis Gomez, President of the UFADBA. “He also has shown great concern about the difficult working conditions we confront at work everyday. As emergency responders, we have first-hand appreciation for the heroic leadership he showed whenever our city faced a crisis—whether it was COVID-19, Hurricane Sandy, Ida, or any number of other emergencies. With New York City at a crossroads, there is no one better equipped to turn our city around.”

The labor endorsement comes after the backing of the two largest FDNY unions, the Uniformed Firefighters Association and the United Fire Officers Association. They join 1199SEIU, LIUNA NY, New York State Iron Workers, 32BJ SEIU, the Hotel and Gaming Trades Council, the Uniformed EMTs, Paramedics & Fire Inspectors Local 2507, Teamsters Joint Council 16, the New York City Deputy Sheriffs’ Benevolent Association, New York City Coalition of the International Union of the Operating Engineers, the Utility Workers Union of America Local 1-2, Teamsters Local 237, Local 3 IBEW, New York City and Vicinity District Council of Carpenters, District Council 9 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades in endorsing Andrew Cuomo for Mayor.

Throughout his career in public service, Governor Cuomo has been a champion for working New Yorkers. He raised wages for millions and protected the right to organize when the Supreme Court tried to break the back of the labor movement. Governor Cuomo increased access to healthcare, enacted the nation's strongest paid family leave program and expanded apprenticeships, vocational training, and workforce development programs. He also advanced the most substantial infrastructure program in a generation, including the Second Avenue Subway, the Moynihan Train Hall and the new Kosciuszko Bridge and the new JFK and LaGuardia Airports – all major projects built with union labor.
