Two FDNY Unions Endorse Andrew Cuomo for Mayor of New York City
Uniformed Firefighters Association, United Fire Officers Association Join Campaign to Save Our City
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City, today earned the pivotal endorsements of New York’s Bravest who serve in the FDNY – the Uniformed Firefighters Association and the United Fire Officers Association. The two firefighter unions represent the rank-and-file members and the fire officers of the New York City Fire Department, respectively.
The UFA represents 20,000 uniformed firefighters and the UFOA represents 7,500 members who include Lieutenants, Captains, Battalion Chiefs, Deputy Chiefs, Supervising Fire Marshals and Medical Officers of the FDNY.
“Being a firefighter isn’t just a job—it’s a calling. The brave men and women of the FDNY put their lives on the line every day, in aid of others, without hesitation,” said Governor Cuomo. “On 9/11, the FDNY lost a heartbreaking 343 heroes. Many more 9/11 first responders have since died before their time, due to the cruel after-effects of their selfless work. I will never forget their sacrifices, and I will work to ensure that every branch of government provides these heroes with the resources they deserve. To choose to serve the public is noble. To run toward the danger, when all others run away, is heroic. I am deeply proud to have the endorsement of the heroes of UFA and the UFOA. Thank you to New York’s Bravest.”
“Throughout his time as Governor, Andrew Cuomo consistently demonstrated that he values the lives, safety, and dignity of New York’s firefighters and first responders,” said Andrew Ansbro, President of the Uniformed Firefighters Association. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the city was under siege, he ensured emergency services were prioritized for PPE and testing long before federal support arrived. He led the rebuilding of critical infrastructure including hospitals, public transit, and emergency response networks, and he never hesitated to put funding behind words. He created and expanded cancer and disability benefits for firefighters and pushed through laws that protected 9/11 responders and their families. At a time when first responders were under enormous pressure, Cuomo stood with us. He didn’t politicize public safety—he delivered results. The Uniformed Firefighters Association is proud to endorse Andrew Cuomo for Mayor because we know he understands the weight of public safety leadership.”
“As President of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association, I am proud to endorse Andrew Cuomo for Mayor of New York City,” said James Brosi, President of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association. “Andrew and I both grew up in Queens—a borough that taught us the value of service, hard work, and community. Throughout his public life, Andrew has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the men and women who keep this city safe. As Governor, Andrew Cuomo acted decisively and was a strong leader. He signed the Pension Protection Law, guaranteeing that those who earn a pension receive the benefits they rightfully deserve. Andrew has always stood for the integrity of the civil service system, with a deep commitment to preserving and strengthening the merit-based foundation that ensures fairness and excellence in public service. He understands the unique challenges our city faces. As zoning changes and increased population density strain our resources, Andrew supports the expansion of public safety personnel and infrastructure to meet growing demands—ensuring that New York remains not only livable, but safe for all who call it home. Equally important, Andrew has pledged to create a strong, ongoing partnership with the UFOA—recognizing that the evolving needs of this city and our department require open communication, collaborative solutions, and trusted leadership.”

He raised wages for millions and protected the right to organize when the Supreme Court tried to break the back of the labor movement. Governor Cuomo increased access to healthcare, enacted the nation's strongest paid family leave program and expanded apprenticeships, vocational training, and workforce development programs. He also advanced the most substantial infrastructure program in a generation, including the Second Avenue Subway, the Moynihan Train Hall and the new Kosciuszko Bridge and the new JFK and LaGuardia Airports – all major projects built with union labor.
