Teamsters Joint Council 16 Endorses Cuomo for Mayor of New York City

Coalition of 27 Unions Represents 120,000 Hardworking New Yorkers

New York, NY – Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City, today received the endorsement of Teamsters Joint Council 16, representing more than 120,000 working men and women across New York City.

The Teamsters are among the most diverse and essential workers in the city—truck drivers, warehouse workers, sanitation workers, public defenders, airline workers, film and television crews, and many others who keep New York running every single day. With 27 local unions under its umbrella, Teamsters Joint Council 16 is one of the city’s most powerful voices for labor, fairness, and economic opportunity.

Thomas Gesualdi, President of Teamsters Joint Council 16, said, “Andrew Cuomo has proven time and again that he’s the fighter working people can count on. He built jobs, he built industries, and he built opportunity for the men and women who power New York City. We know as mayor he is ready to deliver again. Andrew Cuomo will keep our union members working, invest in New York’s middle class, and will always ensure labor has a seat at the table. The Teamsters don’t back down, and neither does Andrew Cuomo. That is why Teamsters Joint Council 16 is proud to stand in his corner and endorse him for Mayor today.”

“New York City is powered by working people, and no one represents that truth more than the Teamsters,” Cuomo said.  “For generations, they’ve built this city’s industries, kept it moving, and stood as a backbone of our middle class. I am honored to have their support, and as mayor, I will fight every day to keep good jobs here, grow new industries, and ensure working men and women have the respect, security, and opportunity they deserve.”

The endorsement underscores Cuomo’s strong record of delivering for the men and women in organized labor: investing in infrastructure that created tens of thousands of union jobs, expanding worker protections, and negotiating historic labor agreements during his time as Governor.
