Statement from Andrew M. Cuomo on Hurricane Melissa and the People of Jamaica

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City and former Governor of New York, today issued the following statement expressing solidarity with the people of Jamaica as they brace for the impact of Hurricane Melissa:

“Jamaica isn’t just an island, its home to thousands of New Yorkers with deep roots and family ties. Our hearts and prayers are with the people of Jamaica today as they face Hurricane Melissa and the dangerous conditions it brings.
From Queens to Kingston, our communities are bound by culture, faith, and family. We share a common strength and resilience that will see us through this storm together. New York stands with Jamaica now and always.”
As Governor, Cuomo led New York’s efforts to assist Caribbean nations and territories devastated by hurricanes, deploying resources and personnel to support recovery in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Bahamas. He reaffirmed that same spirit of partnership and compassion today, pledging to work with New York’s Jamaican community and international relief organizations to aid those affected by Hurricane Melissa.
Cuomo’s campaign team is coordinating with local Jamaican-American leaders across the city to help connect families, share updates, and support relief efforts in the days ahead.
