Reverend Herbert Daughtry Endorses Andrew M. Cuomo for Mayor of New York City
Brooklyn, N.Y. — Reverend Herbert Daughtry, Senior Pastor of The House of the Lord Church in Downtown Brooklyn and one of New York’s most respected civil-rights leaders, today announced his endorsement of Andrew M. Cuomo for Mayor of New York City.
“As a pastor who has spent my life fighting for human rights and civil rights, I believe in the power of leadership that uplifts entire communities,” said Reverend Daughtry. “Having served as HUD Secretary and Governor, Andrew Cuomo is a tested and proven leader who we can trust to deliver on his promise. He has consistently stood with the Black community to improve the lives of working-class families, protect the vulnerable, and advance justice for all. Our communities need someone who not only understands government, but understands us — our struggles, our hopes, and our collective future. Over our many years of friendship, Governor Cuomo has shown time and again that he can bring people together and deliver results that strengthen every corner of New York.”
Andrew Cuomo thanked Reverend Daughtry for his endorsement and for his lifelong commitment to justice and community empowerment: “Reverend Daughtry has been a moral compass and a voice for justice in New York for more than half a century,” said Andrew M. Cuomo. “His leadership at The House of the Lord Church and his tireless work for human and civil rights have changed lives and lifted communities across this city. I’m deeply grateful for his friendship, his counsel, and his endorsement. Reverend Daughtry embodies what public service and faith in action truly mean — and together, we’ll continue to fight for fairness, dignity, and opportunity for every New Yorker.”
Reverend Daughtry’s endorsement adds to the growing coalition of faith, community, and civic leaders rallying behind Cuomo’s campaign to restore safety, affordability, and unity to New York City.
Reverend Herbert Daughtry has been the National Presiding Minister of The House of the Lord Church in Brooklyn since 1959. A veteran of the civil-rights movement, Reverend Daughtry marched alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., served as Chairman of the National Black United Front, founded the African People’s Christian Organization and has been a leading advocate for racial and economic justice for decades. Known as the “People’s Pastor,” he has worked closely with leaders of faith, labor, and government to build bridges of understanding and empower communities across New York City.
