Mayoral Candidate and New York State Senator Jessica Ramos Endorses Andrew Cuomo for Mayor
After Running Spirited Campaign, Ramos Calls on Her Supporters to Rank Cuomo #1 in Upcoming Democratic Primary Election
There’s so much at stake and in City Hall we need a battle tested and experienced fighter who can both guard the city from what the Trump administration has up its sleeve and continue to deliver for working New Yorkers. That fighter is Andrew Cuomo.
- Mayoral Candidate and New York State Senator Jessica Ramos
Governor Andrew Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City, today received the endorsement of Democratic Mayoral candidate and New York State Senator Jessica Ramos, who represents the Queens neighborhoods of Astoria, Corona, East Elmhurst, Elmhurst, Jackson Heights and Woodside. After running a spirited campaign, Senator Ramos joined Cuomo at a labor rally inside the District Council of Carpenters union hall to make her surprise announcement before a packed crowd with hundreds of members of organized labor supporting Cuomo.
Senator Ramos said Cuomo is the only candidate in this race with the experience and proven track record of delivering results. As Chair of the New York State Senate Labor Committee, Senator Ramos worked with Cuomo as Governor to pass legislation to protect farmworkers, immigrants and raise the minimum wage. Ramos urged her supporters to coalesce behind Cuomo as the clear candidate of organized labor and working families in this race. Her decision comes only two days after the first New York City Democratic mayoral primary debate where Cuomo presented himself as the clear winner who offered real solutions to address the affordability crisis.
“I entered this race because working New Yorkers deserve better than Eric Adams,” State Senator Jessica Ramos said. “And while I’m staying in this race to keep pushing for higher wages, more housing, and a stronger voice for working people, I know that I am fighting for something bigger than myself. With Trump threatening to bulldoze New York and take us backward, we need someone in City Hall who knows how to hold the line and deliver under pressure. I’ve worked with Andrew Cuomo to raise wages, protect immigrant workers, and pass major labor reforms, and I know he can go toe-to-toe with Trump when it counts. This is about governing, not posturing. The stakes are high, and I’m supporting Andrew because I believe he’s the one best positioned right now to protect this city.”
“Senator Ramos is a fighter for working New Yorkers and they are the better off for it,” Governor Cuomo said. “As Chair of the Labor Committee, I worked with her to put new protections for domestic workers in place. Together, we successfully fought to give long-sought rights and protections to farm workers, crack down on wage theft in all of its forms and enacted the 'Excluded Workers Act'. We’re both proud Queens kids and with it comes a ‘Queens attitude’ that is both tough and protective of our families and our neighbors and by extension all New Yorkers. That’s Senator Ramos and I’m very proud to have her support and look forward to working with her to pass a $20 minimum wage, put this city back on the right track and make this a stronger and more affordable place for all working men and women.”
This endorsement follows other Queens elected officials who have endorsed Cuomo for Mayor, including the Democratic Organization of Queens County and its Chairman Rep. Gregory W. Meeks, New York State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, New York State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr., New York State Senator James Sanders Jr., Assembly Member Stacey Pheffer Amato, Assembly Member Sam Berger, Assembly Member Vivian Cook, Assembly Member David Weprin, Assembly Member Edward Braunstein, Assembly Member Clyde Vanel, and Assembly Member Alicia Hyndman.
Throughout his career in public service, Governor Cuomo has been a champion for working New Yorkers. He raised wages for millions and protected the right to organize when the Supreme Court tried to break the back of the labor movement. Governor Cuomo increased access to healthcare, enacted the nation's strongest paid family leave program and expanded apprenticeships, vocational training, and workforce development programs. He also advanced the most substantial infrastructure program in a generation, including the Second Avenue Subway, the Moynihan Train Hall and the new Kosciuszko Bridge and the new JFK and LaGuardia Airports – all major projects built with union labor.
