Imam Qazi Qayyoom Endorses Andrew Cuomo for Mayor During Visit to Masjid Darul Hidaya in Jackson Heights

Jackson Heights, NY – Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City, today visited Masjid Darul Hidaya in Jackson Heights, where he joined Jumuʿah prayers and met with community leaders. Cuomo was welcomed by Imam Mufti Abdussamad Awal, who praised his willingness to listen to the concerns of the congregation.

“Today, during Jumuʿah, we had the pleasure of welcoming Andrew Cuomo into our mosque to hear his vision for New York City, just as we would with any candidate. We deeply appreciate him taking the time to listen to our concerns and we look forward to working with him and his future administration,” said Imam Mufti Abdussamad Awal of Masjid Darul Hidaya.

During the visit, Cuomo also met Imam Qazi Qayyoom, Founder of the Muhammadi Community & Interfaith Center, who announced his formal endorsement of Cuomo for Mayor.

“I am proud to endorse Andrew Cuomo for Mayor, and will work hand in hand with him to unite our city, rather than divide us. Most importantly, he has the experience and a proven track record with every community, including the Muslim community, which makes him well-suited to run this city,” said Imam Qazi Qayyoom.

Cuomo expressed his deep gratitude for the support and emphasized the importance of working with New York City’s Muslim community to build a stronger, more inclusive city.

“I am honored to receive Imam Qayyoom’s endorsement and grateful to Imam Awal and the congregation of Masjid Darul Hidaya for welcoming me today. The Muslim community is an essential part of New York’s fabric, contributing to our city’s strength, culture, and diversity. As Mayor, I will always work in partnership with every community to ensure that voices are heard, needs are met, and that together we build a safer, fairer, and more united city,” said Andrew Cuomo.
