Governor David Paterson Endorses Andrew Cuomo for Mayor

“I'm proudly endorsing Andrew Cuomo today because I believe he is the best equipped to lead our beautiful city during these trying times.”

Bronx, N.Y. — Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City, today received the endorsement of former New York Governor David Paterson, the state’s first African-American Governor and Lieutenant Governor.  The endorsement event took place outside of a senior center in the Bronx, alongside current Mayor Eric Adams, where the three had been meeting with residents in an effort to get out the vote.

“This has been a truly wild campaign for New York City mayor,” said Governor Paterson. “I'm proudly endorsing Andrew Cuomo today because I believe he is the best equipped to lead our beautiful city during these trying times. Andrew has the experience the job demands to attract and maintain businesses to grow our economy, take on massive infrastructure projects, and make sure law enforcement has the resources they need to keep city streets safe and protected. I know Andrew and his team have been fighting to bridge the gap and they have my full support for anything they might need between now and next Tuesday.”

Governor Cuomo thanked Paterson for his endorsement and longstanding friendship, saying: “Governor Paterson has always embodied the best of New York: courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to justice and fairness. His support and friendship over the years means a great deal to me as we continue building a winning coalition to move this city forward.”

Throughout his career in public service, Governor Cuomo has been a champion for working New Yorkers. As Governor, he raised wages for millions and protected the right to organize when the Supreme Court tried to break the back of the labor movement. He expanded access to healthcare, enacted the nation’s strongest paid family leave program, and created new pathways to opportunity through apprenticeships and workforce development.

Cuomo also led the most ambitious infrastructure modernization in generations — including the Second Avenue Subway, Moynihan Train Hall, the new Kosciuszko Bridge, and the transformations of JFK and LaGuardia Airports — all built with union labor.

As the campaign heads into its final days, Governor Cuomo continues to make the case for steady, proven leadership to deliver results for every New Yorker.
