Governor Cuomo Delivers Remarks at Assembly Member Gibbs’ Mother’s Day Seniors Brunch
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City, today attended Assembly Member Eddie Gibbs’ Mother’s Day Seniors Brunch at the James Weldon Johnson House in Harlem. Gibbs, who represents East Harlem and Randall’s Island as well as parts of the Upper East Side and Central Harlem, was one of the first elected officials to endorse Cuomo for Mayor back in March.
Cuomo greeted 75 residents who attended the event and spoke to them about his plans to make New York City safer and stand up to President Trump. Back in February, Cuomo attended a Valentine’s Day party, hosted by Gibbs, for senior citizens at the Johnson Houses Community Center in East Harlem.
A transcript of his remarks appears below:
Who's this young man? How great is Eddie Gibbs, your Assemblyman? Oh, he's better than that. Let's give it up for Eddie Gibbs. C'mon a little louder than that. Did you save me food? You sure? Because I'm going to get my plate right now.
But I want to say two things. First, I want to say that Eddie Gibbs is the man. He's a friend of mine, he delivers for you, let's give him a big round of applause.
And a Happy Mother’s Day to you. And this is what we promise you on Mother’s Day. We promise to love you, respect you, and protect you. And that's what we're going to do, that's the obligation that we have to all of you. And that's what the City of New York is going to do for all of you. An affordable safe place to live, enough police on the street to keep you safe, and we're going to make sure your healthcare is taken care of, and we don't care what that man in Washington does, we're going to make sure you have what you need. Get something to eat, God bless you.
