New York City, N.Y. – The Andrew Cuomo for Mayor campaign today released its latest advertisement of the general election: “Do You Want Bill de Blasio 2.0?"
The ad contrasts Cuomo’s plans to build 500,000 more units of housing, cutting taxes for working New Yorkers and raising the minimum wage to $20 an hour with Mamdani’s promise to repeat former Mayor De Blasio’s failed rent freeze for rent stabilized apartments. The freeze only applies to 25 percent of the housing in New York, leaving the rest with higher rents to absorb rising costs. Mayor de Blasio froze these rents three times during his administration and it did nothing to fix the housing crisis New York City is facing.
“The only way out of this crisis is to build more housing and build more housing fast,” said Cuomo, who was federal housing secretary under President Clinton. “I know how to do it, how to cut bureaucratic red tape on Day One and get shovels in the ground. What won’t solve the problem is De Blasio/ Mamdani bumper sticker slogans that sound good, but have already proven to have failed. New Yorkers need real results and they need them now.”
The ad will run widely across streaming, and digital platforms.
A script of the ad is below:
Cuomo and Mamdani. Two candidates with two very different plans for New York City.
Andrew Cuomo would build 500,000 affordable homes, cut taxes for working families, and raise the minimum wage to $20 an hour.
Zohran Mamdani would freeze the rent for only 25 percent of New Yorkers while raising it for everyone else.
Sound familiar? It is! de Blasio tried and failed before.
The choice is simple — Mamdani and de Blasio freeze the rent for a few. Cuomo — lower the rent for all.
