Cuomo: Mamdani Can’t Dodge His Own Project 2025
Mamdani Must Come Clean with New Yorkers & Tell Them Where He Stands On DSA Platform to Defund & Dismantle Police & Prisons; Decriminalize the Drug & Sex Trades; End Misdemeanors & Seize Ownership of Key Parts of the Economy
"Zohran Mamdani is the least vetted major candidate for mayor in history and New Yorkers deserve to know who they are voting for before it's too late." - Andrew Cuomo

New York, NY - Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for mayor of New York City today demanded that his opponent Zohran Mamdani stop dodging questions from the public and the press and come clean about his support for the Democratic Socialists of America platform that seeks to dismantle law enforcement, close all jails and prisons, decriminalize the drug and sex trades and nationalize key parts of our economy.
During the race for mayor, Mamdani, a long time member of the DSA, has avoided directly answering any questions about the organization’s platform, despite his years of vocal support for its key planks, including defunding police, decriminalizing prostitution and even ‘seizing the means of production.’ This is despite having senior DSA members write key parts of his policy agenda. The DSA platform is the extreme far left equivalent of President Trump’s Project 2025, a far right blueprint written by his supporters that he refused to acknowledge on the campaign trail, but started to be implemented the moment he was sworn in for a second term.
“Zohran Mamdani is the least vetted major candidate for mayor in history and New Yorkers deserve to know who they are voting for before it's too late,” Governor Cuomo said. “Trump’s Project 2025 was a dangerous right wing platform that has been put into place with frightening results. Zorhan’s Project 2025 is a dangerous and frightening left wing platform that will destroy public safety, empty prisons and mental health institutions, legalize the drug and sex trades, disarm police officers and reduce law enforcement budgets to zero. Make no mistake: This is a battle for the soul of New York City.”
The DSA platform includes:
- Defund the police; cut budgets annually towards zero
- Free all people from involuntary confinement — end prisons and jails
- End all misdemeanor offenses
- End investment in police training; disarm law enforcement officers
- Repeal truancy law
- Decriminalize squatting and other occupation of unused housing
- New political order through a second Constitutional Convention; abolish the Senate
- Decriminalize sex work and the drug trade
- Boycott, divestment, and sanction of Israel — but not Uganda
- Social ownership of utilities and key sectors of the economy
In contrast, Governor Cuomo is running on a platform that includes:
Opportunity
– Close chronically underperforming schools and replace them with Charter, P-Tech Schools
– Double number of specialized high schools across the city
– Create a $1.5 billion Five-Borough Economic Transformation Capital Fund to attract major job-creating projects across all boroughs
– Convert underused city property into tech, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing hubs.
Affordability
– Build 50,000 new units of affordable housing/year to drive overall costs down
– Eliminate income taxes for low income New Yorkers
– Cap Property taxes for homeowners
– Universal 3K, expand free childcare options
Public safety
– Hiring an additional 5,000 additional police, include 1,500 in the subways
– Expand the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group (SRG) specialized unit
– Increase Precision Policing
