Cuomo Demands Answers from Mamdani After NY Post Exposé Reveals DSA Control Over His Campaign and Policy Positions
Meeting Exposes Shadow DSA Power Structure to Run City Hall
New York, NY – Following explosive reporting in the New York Post detailing how Zohran Mamdani has allowed the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) to dictate his policies and campaign strategy, Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City, today called on Mamdani to come clean with voters.
"Today’s New York Post story confirms what we’ve said all along: Zohran Mamdani doesn’t work for the people of New York, he works for the Democratic Socialists of America,” Cuomo said. “According to DSA leaders, for years they have told him how to vote, written his platform, and now they openly brag that if he’s elected Mayor, he’ll follow their orders. That is not democracy, that is a shadow government. Zohran Mamdani has serious questions to answer before this election, which is exactly why he runs and hides every chance he gets. New Yorkers deserve to know whether they will be electing a Mayor or a figurehead for the DSA.”
Ten Questions Zohran Mamdani Must Answer
- Who’s really in charge: you or the DSA? DSA Leaders reportedly say you’ve held weekly meetings for years where DSA leaders dictated your Assembly votes and policy positions. Will they be calling the shots in City Hall too?
- What does “following the will of the membership” mean? The DSA openly says you’ll follow their instructions if elected. Do you reject this characterization, or will you let them dictate city government?
- Why are you hiding your true platform? You told the press that if it’s not on your website, it’s not part of your platform. What policies are you hiding because you know voters would reject them?
- Do you embrace the DSA platform? As a dues-paying, card-carrying member who contributes a percentage of your income to both the DSA local and national chapters, do you support their positions — and if not, which positions specifically do you not support?
- Are you just using the Democratic Party? At this secret meeting, the DSA “blasted” the Democratic party, admitting they only use the Democratic line for ballot access while rejecting our views. Are you exploiting the Democratic Party the same way?
- Name three times you defied the DSA. If you are truly independent, when have you ever broken with them on a major policy or vote?
- When New Yorkers’ needs conflict with DSA dogma, who wins? If the city needs more police officers but the DSA says abolish the NYPD, whose side are you on?
- Is it appropriate for an outside political club to hold weekly meetings with the Mayor? Will City Hall essentially become an extension of the DSA?
- Will you put New Yorkers above the DSA? Are you willing to resign your membership and publicly commit to putting the interests of the people first?
Why does the DSA claim credit for your win? They said your primary victory was theirs. Do you agree your election belongs to them, not to the voters of New York?
