BREAKING: In Newly Unearthed Paid Ad, Curtis Sliwa Absolves Cuomo From COVID Nursing Home Controversy In Direct Contradiction to his Conspiracy-Fueled Campaign

Listen to it here

New York, N.Y. – In newly unearthed audio, Curtis Sliwa, the spoiler candidate for mayor whose presence in the race could lead to the election of extreme socialist Zohran Mamdani, starred in a paid commercial stating unequivocally that Andrew Cuomo did not mandate that nursing homes take in COVID positive patients during the 2020 pandemic, and also that nursing homes — not Cuomo — were at fault during COVID.

This ad is in direct contradiction with his current campaign rhetoric, which has been disproven by multiple independent investigations and reviews.

Sliwa, as a shock jock for 77 WABC, appeared in a radio ad for a law firm looking for clients to file lawsuits against nursing homes who lost relatives during the pandemic. In it, Sliwa unequivocally asked attorney Jeffrey Guzman if it was "really true that former Governor Cuomo mandated that nursing homes had to take in COVID patients?”

Jeffrey Guzman responded and said: “No, never. Cuomo, through his Department of Health, only gave guidance suggesting that the nursing homes take in such patients.”

The two then said it was the nursing homes themselves who bore responsibility for not enacting proper disease control protocols. Since then, as recently as this morning during an unhinged radio interview, Sliwa has fallen back on the myth that this DOH guidance was the cause of multiple COVID deaths.

“Curtis the Paid Shill was right and Curtis the Spoiler is wrong,” said Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi. “Sliwa and Zohran Mamdani both run on the nursing home lie that was revealed to be lawfare by Trump’s Department of Justice and disproven by every single independent investigation. The worst part is that the pain of those who lost loved ones was weaponized for politics to this day. Sliwa and Mamdani should be ashamed, but I don’t believe they are capable of it.”

The commercial was posted on 77 WABC's Facebook page on April 20, 2022.

Curtis Sliwa

Hey, it's Curtis, and I'm here again with my friend Jeff Guzman from the law firm of Krentsel, Guzman, Herbert. We wanna update you on some important information regarding the pandemic nursing home scandal, which resulted in so many unnecessary deaths. Jeff, thanks for joining me again.

Jeffrey Guzman

Thanks for inviting me, Curtis, we had so many calls. I'm glad we're talking about this again.

Curtis Sliwa

Jeff, is it really true that former Governor Cuomo mandated that nursing homes had to take in COVID patients?

Jeffrey Guzman

No, never. Cuomo, through his Department of Health, only gave guidance suggesting that the nursing homes take in such patients.

Curtis Sliwa

Jeff, are you saying that these nursing homes do bear some of the responsibility for what happened?

Jeffrey Guzman

Absolutely. For years before the pandemic, the nursing homes failed to prepare for the inevitable by devising a comprehensive infectious disease protocol, and they knew that if they took in these patients, they were going to risk the lives of existing residents.

Curtis Sliwa

So Jeff, are those family members able to sue these nursing homes?

Jeffrey Guzman

Yes. At Krentsel, Guzman, Herbert, we're filing these cases on behalf of these most vulnerable victims and their families every day.

Curtis Sliwa

I understand that recently, Governor Hochul in her first budget passed up an opportunity to create a fund to compensate these victims. So Jeff, what are these families to do?

Jeffrey Guzman

Yeah, well, that's true, and that's why it's more important than ever that we fight to hold these nursing homes responsible for their part in this tragedy.

Curtis Sliwa

You've said you've had an amazing response and calls by people regarding this. Is that still going on?

Jeffrey Guzman

Definitely. I'm so glad, Curtis, that you and WABC are helping to get the word out

The federal Department of Justice Inspector General the State Attorney General and New York State’s COVID-19 After Action Report, all found the state’s nursing home admission guidance was consistent with federal guidance, was similar to guidance issued in a dozen Republican and Democratic-led states. The DOJ IG further found that the issue was cooked up by Trump administration appointees as an election issue and that DOJ resources were corruptly weaponized to do so. The IG referred those responsible for criminal prosecution.  Additionally there has been no credible empirical evidence that concludes it caused additional deaths.
