Andrew Cuomo Joins Grand Marshal Harley Lippman to March in Israel Day Parade
Our Jewish brothers and sisters are under attack and we cannot and will not sit by and allow them to live in fear and hide who they are in order to feel safe on our streets. We need to stand with them, support them and support the state of Israel in the loudest and clearest terms during this profoundly serious time in our history.
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for mayor of New York City, earlier today joined Grand Marshal Harley Lippman and the Jewish Community Relations Council to march in this year’s Israel Day parade. The parade was held amid a national surge in antisemitic hate crimes, according to the Anti-Defamation League. This is the highest number since the group started tracking these incidents in 1979 and a 153 percent increase since 2022 – the year before the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel by Hamas. New York — home to the largest Jewish population outside of Israel – has the dubious distinction of having the highest number of antisemitic incidents in the nation.
Cuomo recently released his agenda to fight antisemitism, which includes ensuring the city exercises its power to enforce violations of the human rights law – even if local district attorneys will not – and prosecuting these offenses to the fullest extent possible.
“Our Jewish brothers and sisters are under attack and we cannot and will not sit by and allow them to live in fear and hide who they are in order to feel safe on our streets,” Governor Cuomo said. “We need to stand with them, support them and support the state of Israel in the loudest and clearest terms during this profoundly serious time in our history. I am proud to march in solidarity today and I thank Grand Marshal Lippman for inviting me to join them. We will have zero tolerance for these antisemitic attacks in this city and as mayor I will ensure that the ties between New York and Israel remain deep and unbreakable.”
As Governor, Andrew Cuomo passed the strongest hate crime laws in the nation, made New York the first state to ban BDS, developed a model program that delivered millions of dollars in security upgrades for synagogues and yeshivas and when Hamas was firing rockets into Israel, he organized a solidarity mission from New York to show the world that we stand with them. He also was the only elected official in the nation to go to Poland and participate in the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
