Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for mayor of New York City, celebrated Haitian Flag Day with members of the community at a street fair in Brooklyn. He was joined by Assembly Member and Brooklyn Democratic Chair, Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn and Council Member Farah Louis.
“Our diversity is our strength and the Haitian community is an important and vibrant part of the fabric of this great city,” Governor Cuomo said. “It is an honor to celebrate Haiti’s rich culture alongside these proud New Yorkers. Together, we’re going to put this city back on the right track and make it a safer and more affordable place for all.”
Throughout his career in public service, Governor Cuomo has been a champion for working New Yorkers. He raised wages for millions and protected the right to organize when the Supreme Court tried to break the back of the labor movement. Governor Cuomo increased access to healthcare, enacted the nation's strongest paid family leave program and expanded apprenticeships, vocational training, and workforce development programs. He also advanced the most substantial infrastructure program in a generation, including the Second Avenue Subway, the Moynihan Train Hall and the new Kosciuszko Bridge and the new JFK and LaGuardia Airports – all major projects built with union labor.
