Statement From Former Governor Andrew M. Cuomo on Columbus Day
Andrew Cuomo
“Columbus Day has always held special meaning for my family.
“My father was the son of Italian immigrants who came to America with little more than hope and a willingness to work hard. He never forgot where he came from, and neither have I.
“Generations of Italian Americans helped build New York and this nation, overcoming prejudice and hardship through sacrifice, determination and an unwavering belief in the American Dream.
“Their contributions deserve our gratitude, their heritage deserves our respect, and their traditions deserve to be celebrated, not diminished.
