David N. Dinkins, New York City’s 106th Mayor, Endorses Governor Cuomo for Reelection

New York, NY – Former New York City Mayor David N. Dinkins has endorsed Governor Andrew Cuomo for reelection. Mayor Dinkins hailed the governor’s long list of progressive accomplishments, which include uplifting New York's most vulnerable communities and tackling criminal justice reform.  Mayor Dinkins served as Mayor of New York City from 1990-1993.  He was the first, and remains the only, African American to hold the office.

“Governor Cuomo has proven time after time that he stands with all communities—including the African-American and Latino communities.  He is a champion for social justice,” Mayor Dinkins said. “Our city and state are safer, and our young people have better access to opportunities because of Governor Cuomo. Policies like the Excelsior Scholarship, the SAFE Act, investments in affordable housing, raising the age of criminal responsibility from 16 to 18, and appointing the first-ever special prosecutor to investigate police killings of unarmed civilians are all great steps forward. I am proud to see Governor Cuomo lead our state in so many ways and I’m proud to endorse him for another term as governor.”

“New York has a long and proud history of embracing diversity and taking decisive action to dismantle barriers to social and economic mobility and deliver equal opportunity for all New Yorkers,” Governor Cuomo said. “Donald Trump and his extreme conservative Republican party has taken the opposite approach. They believe that our differences are what makes us weak and they incite policies of hate meant to drive divisions among us. That’s not who we are. That’s not what made America great. I’m proud to receive the endorsement from Mayor Dinkins and stand with all our communities as we fight back against Trump’s divisive agenda.”
