Highlights from the Road


"The Drive for a New NY" just wrapped up a second upstate swing through more than a dozen counties in the Finger Lakes and Western New York. Check out our slideshow of highlights and click on the RV's on the map below to read recaps of each stop.

    Starting his "Drive For a New NY" campaign in Rockland County on Thursday, July 15, Cuomo called on "voters of all stripes to put partisan politics aside and fix what's wrong with New York."

    Speaking at the Mahopac Library, Cuomo received support for his 250-page plan to reform state government from Putnam County Executive Robert Bondi and Carmel town Supervisor Ken Schmitt, both Republicans.

    Cuomo spoke to volunteers, local officials and citizens in Catskill about his 5-Point plan at an organizing event before taking a walk down Main Street.

    In Catskill, he accepted the endorsement of Village President Vincent Seeley.

    "It's not about the old political labels. It's about the performance," Cuomo told the crowd. Read more.

    At the Albany County Picnic, Cuomo greeted hundreds of supporters and emphasized returning integrity to government.

    Cuomo took a break from behind the wheel of the Cuomo RV to check out the custom bikes at Orange County Choppers and shot a cameo for an episode for next season.

    Addressing a crowd of 100 at the Charles Wood Theater in Glens Falls, Cuomo explained that his campaign is about building a citizen movement to change a dysfunctional government.

    Cuomo, his three daughters - Mariah, Cara and Michaela - and niece, Marianna, visited the Lewis County Fair on Day 8 of the tour, where they were met by a "throng of supporters" and local officials.

    Broadening his support for his agenda for a New NY across party lines, Cuomo accepted the endorsement of Republican Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava at an organizing event in Watertown. 

    The most important election we have this year is to elect Andrew Cuomo Governor of the State of New York," Scozzafava told the crowd. Read more.

    In Speculator, supporters and local officials gathered on the lawn of the Public Pavilion to hear Cuomo speak about his plan to bring change and build a New NY.

    Voters signed on to Cuomo's 5-Point plan at the organizing event in Saranac Lake, where Cuomo picked up another prominent Essex County Republican's endorsement, North Elba town Supervisor Roby Politi. 

    Cuomo emphasized the need to "right-size" government -- one of the steps of his 5-Point plan -- by reducing the 10,000 local governments by consolidation or shared services and reducing the number of state agencies, authorities and commissions (now at 1,100) by 20%. Read more.

    Cuomo marched in the Ogdensberg Seaway Festival Parade, where he spoke with soldiers along the parade route and checked out a classic GTO. Read more

    Cuomo took the girls fishing on Lower Saranac Lake on Saturday afternoon.

    Talking with a supporter in Auburn, Cuomo points out a vintage "Cuomo" pin, which Andrew designed himself. Cuomo met with members of the community after speaking about building support for his "Plan for a New NY." Read more.

    Cuomo and his daughters, Mariah, Cara and Michaela, took a break from the campaign trail to visit The Women's Rights National Historic Park in Seneca Falls on the 90th anniversary of Women's suffrage. Read more.

    Andrew greeted supporters after his speech in Canandaigua, where Victor Town Supervisor Jack Marren (R) announced his support for Andrew's "Plan for a New NY." Read more.

    Speaking to a crowd of 200 in Ithaca, Andrew told them that their "energy counts" in making the state great again. Read more.

    Republican Mayor Donna Kelley added to the bipartisan support for Andrew's "Plan for a New NY" at a stop in Montour Falls in Schuyler County.  Read more.

    Cuomo meets with Milly, the founder of Milly's Pantry in Penn Yan, after addressing a crowd at the coffee house on the importance of the Citizen's Campaign.  Read more.

    Andrew and the girls spoke with residents of Steuben County in Hornell as they continued to rally support for Cuomo's "Plan for a New NY." Read more.

    Assemblyman Joe Errigo (R) announced his support for Andrew's "Plan for a New NY" in Mount Morris, NY, as the "Drive for a New NY" continued to build bipartisan support for the citizen's campaign. Read more.

    Visiting the Wyoming County Fair in Pike, Andrew spoke with fair-goers about his "Plan for a New NY," paused for some ice cream and checked out the show cow barns with his daughters. Read more.

    Andrew met with attendees in Belmont after speaking about his "Plan for a New NY." The "Drive for a New NY" galvanized more support for the "Plan for a New NY" in Allengany County. Read more.

    Andrew spoke about the "thread that connects all New Yorkers" at the Hinsdale Fire House in Cattauragus County before serving pancakes to members of the community.  Republican County Legislator Carmen Vecchiarella came out in support of "Andrew’s Plan for a New NY." Read more.

    The 'Drive for a New NY' ended its tour through the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier in Jamestown.  Cuomo was joined by former Lieutenant Governor under Governor Mario Cuomo Stan Lundine and Mayor Sam Teresi, as he addressed the community about his "Plan for a New NY." Read more.
